It's hard to pic a total favorite but one of the main ones is The Poisonwood Bible
ReplyDeleteMany years ago I visited Salisbury and the beautiful Cathedral. I bought a book there to read on my travels. It was Sarum (the Roman name for Salisbury)by Edward Rutherfurd. It followed tens of thousands of years of families in Sarum. I was just blown away by the sheer enormity of writing a book like that, the logistics of keeping it all consistent and cohesive. Just amazing and a great read. (Also made me realize what a pea sized brain I had!)

Hmmm... my favourite book? Ever? Bird by bird by Anne Lamott is a book about writing that changed my views on writing so that was pretty influential. But the book that broke me down, brought me to tears, wrenched my heart open in exquisite pain with its unbelievably delicate words and perfect sentences was Chris Cleave's The Other Hand. Simply brilliant.
